Those Zulu Warriors were a ferocious and intrepid lot, but lacking firearms, they suffered the fate that, three centuries earlier, had befallen the European Knights - their lances were only half the length of the mercenaries` pikes. Behind the 1st line of Pikeneers, there was a 2nd line of soldiers who were armed with muskets, and at such a short distance, the musketeers` volleys proved fatal more often than not.
